The Big City

London is definitely a city that never sleeps, made even more lively by the fact I come from a place where there’s probably more tractors than people. I packed up my belongings on Thursday (like literally all of them because I overpack like you wouldn't believe) hopped on my favourite rail provider (I’m talking ‘bout you Virgin Trains East Coast…picture of on-board cake below) and headed to the big city….alone, are there rules against me being allowed out alone? Probably, but I did it anyway 😏

I was heading to London for some meetings and of course if you follow me on Twitter you’ll have seen I attended a big Marks & Spencer bash to celebrate the oh-so chiselled Oliver Cheshire becoming the new face of Autograph, he is obviously an epic choice to be the face of Autograph, his cheekbones up close look like they've been carved from stone and his style is more than on point…it’s a no brainer!

Aaaaanyway I arrived in London and headed straight for St Martin’s Lane, and to my humble abode for the night. You might not have heard but Premier Inn have launched a seriously cool new smart hotel called Hub by Premier Inn. The only likenesses it holds to its parent brand is in the title ‘Premier Inn’ - that is frankly where it stops. Gone is the purple headboards and bed runners and in their place are compact modern rooms, smart TV’s, rainfall showers…oh, and an app that controls your room.

You read correct…download their dedicated iOS or Android app, use it to check in at one of their self service points on arrival and it will assign your room to the app. Tap ‘my stay’ within the app and you will be able to control the brightness of the rooms lighting, switch channels on the TV, feeling nippy…pfft air con remotes are for amateurs…simply swipe up on the thermometer from within the app and the room will automatically adjust to the right temperature. This is seriously futuristic stuff.

You’ve never stayed at a hotel that is so easy to use, the adjoining Deli Bar serves everything from breakfast to booze (yay! 🍸) - simply pre-book your breakfast and pick from one of three equally delicious deli-style boxes. I picked the bacon box, a delicious dry cured bacon with tomato chutney in thick cut sourdough bread. They help you to start the day right.

Speaking of starting the day right, your bright, glass-walled bathroom comes equipped with a double size shower with a huge rainfall head, seriously I didn't want to leave it 😍

If you’re staying in London I more than recommend checking out the Hub by Premier Inn hotel, it’s convenient, in a great location and super comfortable, yes the rooms are small but not exactly pokey, a cat could easily be swung (not that I would recommend it at all…) - I think if I had to pick out any negatives it would be that the little Air Con Refrigerant leak detector makes a hissing sound all day and night, it's pretty loud and woke me up a couple of times when I was drifting off to sleep. The host in the lobby informed me this is completely normal...you do definitely tune out of it in the end though!

so, if you’re looking for a clean comfortable stay then definitely look up my new favourite hotel and make sure for a comfortable journey, you check out your nearest Virgin Trains service.
